Forty years ago, Lee Woodsworth entered a long search for care, with little success, for his ill children. Finally, the Boston Center for Blind Children offered him the support he and his family desperately needed.
In response to the lack of adequate services for children, and to show his gratitude to the Boston Center for Blind Children, Lee Woodsworth founded Friends for Children.
Inspired by Woodsworth's initiative, Friends for Children grew into a charity offering warmth, compassion and direction to families in need of care for their children. No family should experience the hardship, suffering and pain that comes with not finding care for their children in need.
Today, Friends for Children funds many programs including:
- MR8 Foundation
- City Singers
- Health Baby / Healthy Child
- Fitzgerald Community School
- Holy Family Enrichment
- Children's Trust Fund
- Elizabeth Stone House
- The Gavin Foundation
- The Furbish Children Fund
- Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House
- Cradles to Crayons
